The cause of death is stated by her mother Erica Robinson who announced and declared through the official Facebook and Twitter accounts on which she published the news concerning her death on the 3rd February. The post in which Robinson declared her dead, declaring that her 18-year-old daughter had been shot, and she posted a picture of her daughter taken by her former father. In matching red T-shirts, the two women appeared to stand close to each other. Officials from the Jackson Police Department have confirmed that Gatlin's murder took place on Barnes Street.
